THE FLICKER PAINTINGS
The Flicker paintings are a group of stripes paintings and surface voids on constructed board of plywood. The stripes, in differents sizes (one strong color and black, white or grey) have regular distances between them. The slits ( surface voids or blanks ) have also a regular rythm moving forward than stripes or board structure that is the painting support.
There is three rythms alternately, the painting (stripes), the missing support ( slits) and the plywood surface (voids), each of them relating to differents planes: the wall, the space behind the paintig, the plywood’s surface and the painted stripes flat plane. The space and the painting plane.
Inspired by the “flicker” films blinking (in hommage to Paul Sharits, Tony Conrad, Peter Kubelka,..) these paintings gives their vertical size in reference to film’s putting on the screen, creating a mental space operated by discountinued blanks and perceptions.
